PERPIGNAN
After a visit in 1963, the surrealist artist Salvador Dalí declared Perpignan city's railway station the centre of the Universe. He said that he always got his best ideas while sitting in the waiting room. Above the station one can see a monument in Dali's honour and on one of the main platforms painted in big letters are the words: “Perpignan centre du monde”. But the city undoubtedly boasts more sights than its station. Be sure to visit the cathedral of St. John the Baptist which was begun in 1324. The 13th century castle of the kings of Majorca is also worth your attention. The walls which once surrounded the town had been designed by Vauban but were razed in 1904 to accommodate urban development. Perpignan welcomes you to stay in its top-class hotels - find the best offers only at this site!
