REIMS

The home of Champagne, Reims, is the principal city of Marne Champagnes and a charming city that the French hold dear to their hearts. It was once the home of the Gothic Cathedral where all of the French kings were crowned. During World War I, the town was 80% destroyed and was extensively rebuilt in the 1920's in an Art Deco style. Together with 'pernay and Ay, Reims is one of the great centres of Champagne production. Many of the largest Champagne producing houses have their headquarters in Reims. Most of them are also open for champagne tasting and tours. Champagne here ages in the chalk caves and tunnels under Reims, some dating back to the Roman period. The centre of town is small and pleasant for walking. Mainly pedestrian, it boasts a number of interesting squares and wonderful arcades with enchanting little shops.
