RETHYMNON
Rethymnon is the capital of the Prefecture of the same name and it lies between Crete's two other large cities with Iraklion in the east and Hania in the west. The city is set along the north coast, and boasts one of the largest sand beaches in Crete. On the west, its rocky coastline ends with another large beach as well. Rethymnon is both the administrative and commercial centre of the region and as a popular tourist destination. The town still has its ancient aristocratic appearance. You can find buildings dating from the 16th century, including stone staircases, arched doorways, and Byzantine and Hellenic-Roman relics. The narrow streets of Rethimnon are full of excitement and places to see. The night life ranges from extremely intense to relaxed depending on whether you choose to visit the discoth�ques or the small bars set right on the beach.
